Giving yourself permission to play
One of the best things about Halloween is that it brings out the playful in us. We’re carving pumpkins, making costumes, thinking up silly pranks. We do it because all this is part of a tradition and that goes back hundreds of years, this connection between the Halloween and mischief.
The opportunity is not to go back to normal on November 1st. It’s to embrace a little anarchy and pull it into everyday life. The bending and breaking of rules is creative because it forces you to see the confines and find ways around them.
I’m not advocating for anything malicious or illegal, it’s a note to self as much as anything, to question authority and accepted wisdom, and have fun doing so.
