Stop. Look. Listen. Think.

These words are the essence of the Green Cross Code — something very familiar to me as a kid growing up in the eighties. The code aimed to keep kids safe as they crossed the road. The figurehead for the campaign was the Green Cross Man, played by Dave Prowse who sadly passed away recently (he was also the man in the Darth Vader costume in the Star Wars films). That must be why these words are top of mind right now.

They also double as instructions for a creatively engaged life. They resonate for me at this weird time between Christmas Day and the New Year’s Eve — like big chunks of this year, it’s as if someone’s hit the pause button.

Perhaps one of the lessons from this year is to find ways to hit the pause button ourselves when we need to recharge, review, renew. And take that time to look, listen and think.
